Backstory
The MS-08TX/S Efreet Schneid is a custom close combat mobile suit that appears in Mobile Suit Unicorn Gundam, redesigned for animation by Hajime Katoki. It started life as a standard MS-08TX Efreet during the One Year War, operated by Captain Doug Schneid of the Marchosias Corps. After Schneid sacrificed himself to cover his team's retreat, his subordinate Fred Reber inherited the machine and spent over a decade modifying it while working with Zeon Remnant groups. Reber renamed it "Efreet Schneid" in honor of his former commander. By U.C. 0096, the suit's generator output had nearly doubled compared to the original, and its signature 14 Heat Darts reflected Reber's throwing knife combat style from his days piloting the RX-78XX Gundam Pixy.
The Kit
This was the first time any Efreet variant made it into the High Grade Universal Century line, and Bandai gave it an entirely new mold for the occasion. Released in July 2017, this Gundam gunpla kit came out during a strong run of Unicorn related releases that kept expanding the HGUC catalog with suits that fans had been waiting on. The construction is all new from the ground up, with no shared runners from other kits. Color separation is solid for a model kit at this grade, using dark blue, red, gray, and yellow plastic to capture the Efreet Schneid's color scheme with minimal sticker work. The soft material used for the waist power pipes is a nice detail that also serves a practical purpose by keeping the midsection flexible.
Features
The standout feature here is the sheer number of accessories. You get all 14 Heat Darts that mount across the body (4 on each shoulder, 4 on the left forearm, 2 on the rear skirt), plus two additional handheld Heat Darts in their activated state for combat poses. The darts are color separated between handle and blade, and the blade portions come in red plastic to represent the heated state. Fair warning though: the darts can be a bit loose on some of the mount points, so a small dab of glue might be needed if they keep popping off. The H&L-GB05R/360mm Giant Bazooka is included with a movable grip for shooting poses. The mono-eye can be adjusted independently, which gives you control over where the suit is "looking" in your display. Articulation overall is good for an HG gunpla kit of this era, with the soft waist material giving you decent torso twist range. Foil stickers handle the remaining color details. A great addition to any gunpla collection, especially if you're into Zeon suits.
