GUNDAM HGUC -202- RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type 1/144

SKU:
4573102557575
The HGUC RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type is one of those kits that took way too long to happen. Bandai finally brought this 1/144 scale High Grade workhorse from Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team into the modern HGUC lineup, and it was worth the wait. You get a 100mm machine gun, rocket launcher, net gun, beam sabers, and a shield with a working bipod — basically the full field loadout. It's not trying to be flashy. It's just a well-engineered, satisfying build that works whether you're new to Gunpla or deep into it.

From Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, the RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type is an early prototype from the Earth Federation Forces (EFF) mobile suit mass production program, developed before the operational data from the RX-78-2 Gundam was even recovered. Designed by Kunio Okawara, these units served as the backbone of ground combat operations during the One Year War, deployed across Southeast Asia alongside the Gundam Ground Type and Gundam Ez8. Piloted by various EFF soldiers — including members of Shiro Amada's 08th MS Team and the Kojima Battalion — the GM Ground Type was built as a practical, no-frills ground-pounder. Its armor incorporates Luna Titanium alloy in its compact forearm-mounted shield, and each leg stores a beam saber for close combat. While it lacked the Gundam's full capabilities, the GM Ground Type was essential in establishing the Federation's mobile suit production framework, and its basic head design was later inherited by the standard RGM-79 GM, becoming the iconic face of EFF mass production suits.

This kit was the first time the GM Ground Type got a proper High Grade Universal Century release. The old version was from 1996, so when this one dropped in January 2017, it was a pretty big deal for 08th MS Team fans. It slots in perfectly next to the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type -210- and the RX-79[G]Ez-8 Gundam Ez8 -155-, sharing the same design approach and modern engineering. Whether you're building it as a standalone piece or lining up an entire ground squad, it holds its own.

The shoulders feature a front-and-back swing mechanism that opens up expressive shooting poses, and the kit's panel line detail is well defined enough to look great straight out of the box without additional scribing. The short shield includes a deployable bipod gimmick, and the rocket launcher stores neatly on the rear skirt armor when not in use. The net gun — a first-time plastic model inclusion — adds a unique accessory you won't find in most kits. Beam sabers tuck into dedicated compartments on each lower leg, and the hand selection (grip hands, clenched fists, and an open left palm) gives you plenty of posing flexibility. Color separation between the signature orange-brown and cream tones is clean, and the kit includes both foil and marking sticker sheets for additional detail.
